About Me:

I'm listening to a simple version of Surgery in the Sky, By Venus Hum. Lovely girl. Great feel to her singing. The guys on Casio keyboard and guitar are in sync with her and everyone seems to be having a really good time with this.

Venus Hum captures the lilting songbird quality of this cold New Year's Day.

It is again the time of year when the leaves are gone from the trees and crow is active in the oaks and pines outside this second-story window. So quiet here. I was raking leaves last weekend and the garden is put to bed. Another round on the wheel. Another turn spinning.

Check out this campaign to pledge to bring your own plastic/paper/textile bag when you shop.
I got out of the habit– but this has reminded me to pay attention and bring a box or a bag along!

“Each time a wo/man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, s/he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope… and, crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
– Robert F. Kennedy

I am a tomboy, a rebel, a mother, a part-time lunatic, a healer, a fool, an animal, a shadow, a sound, a shining light. I live in and out of the world. I fall into the cracks. I shine. I blink out. I dream and wake and walk around awhile.

I am a psychotherapist, working in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
My clients are great teachers for me.
I'm learning to shut up and listen.

My life is a blessing that I walk through, a living prayer, light zig-zagging through the deep sky mind I call I.

If you are considering being a vegetarian you may want to check out the PETA information and view the videos available there.
I have been an on again / off again vegetarian for years.

I am outraged.

It will never be possible for me to eat meat again.

I'm learning to let go. Letting the wild divine take over. Stepping out of the way and making room for what needs to enter. What wans to happen. The crack that the light comes through.

Tear It Down

We find out the heart only by dismantling what
the heart knows. By redefining the morning,
we find a morning that comes just after darkness.
We can break through marriage into marriage.
By insisting on love we spoil it, get beyond
affection and wade mouth-deep into love.
We must unlearn the constellations to see the stars.
But going back toward childhood will not help.
The village is not better than Pittsburgh.
Only Pittsburgh is more than Pittsburgh.
Rome is better than Rome in the same way the sound
of raccoon tongues licking the inside walls
of the garbage tub is more than the stir
of them in the muck of the garbage. Love is not
enough. We die and are put into the earth forever.
We should insist while there is still time. We must
eat through the wildness in her sweet body already
in our bed to reach the body within that body.

–Jack Gilbert    from The Great Fires

“The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time.”
  – Mary Oliver / Blue Pastures

Horses have the simple life thing down: pleasure in the moment, the wind and sun, leaning against each other, moving along together, being in concert with the world.

Being with horses is a door that opens me up, breaks my heart and keeps me honest. The grass is green. Why not graze?

Love,

Violet
